Cleaning a conservatory roof safely

Why conservatory roofs get so dirty, why you shouldn’t climb on one, and what a full conservatory clean covers.

A conservatory should be the brightest room in the house. A dirty roof turns it gloomy, with green edges and a film of grime across the glass or panels.

Why conservatory roofs get dirty

  • The low slope means rain doesn’t wash dirt away as well as it would on a steeper roof.
  • Leaves and debris collect in the gutters and along the glazing bars.
  • Algae grows along the edges and joins where water sits.
  • Birds and nearby trees add to the mess.

Don’t climb on it

Conservatory roofs are not built to take a person’s weight. Glass and polycarbonate panels can crack or give way, and falls from them cause serious injuries. Never stand, kneel or lean on a conservatory roof to clean it.

What a full clean covers

Our conservatory cleaning covers the roof, the frames and the glass. Cleaning the gutters on the conservatory at the same time helps the roof stay clean for longer.

Keeping it clean

  • Keep nearby trees and shrubs trimmed back.
  • Make sure the conservatory gutter isn’t blocked.
  • Have the roof cleaned before it builds up a thick layer of algae.
