Keeping a shop, office or retail park looking clean

The outside areas customers notice first, and a simple way to keep on top of them.

Customers see the outside of your business before they see anything else. Dirty paving, green signs and overflowing bins send the wrong message.

What customers notice

  • Entrances and paths. Gum, stains and algae on the approach to the door.
  • Car parks and forecourts. Oil stains, weeds and litter.
  • Windows and shop fronts. Dirty glass and streaked frames.
  • Bin areas. Smells and spilled rubbish where customers can see or smell them.
  • Rooflines. Green fascias and overflowing gutters.

Safety matters too

Slippery paving at an entrance is a risk to customers and staff. Algae and moss on paths and steps are worst in autumn and winter.

Make a plan

Rather than waiting until things look bad, it helps to plan regular cleaning:

  • paths, entrances and forecourts before the busiest seasons
  • gutters once a year or more, depending on nearby trees
  • bin stores and commercial bins often, especially for food businesses
  • windows on a regular round
