A freshly cleaned driveway looks great. These habits help it stay that way for longer.
Sweep regularly
Leaves, soil and grit left on the drive hold moisture and give moss and weeds somewhere to grow. A sweep every week or two, and more in autumn, makes a real difference.
Deal with spills quickly
Oil, fuel and other car fluids soak into paving and stain. Cover a fresh spill with an absorbent material such as cat litter or sand, leave it to soak up the oil, then sweep it up. The sooner you deal with it, the smaller the stain.
Keep gutters and downpipes working
If a downpipe or gutter overflows onto the driveway, that area stays wet and goes green quickly. See signs your gutters are blocked.
Cut back overhanging plants
Shrubs and trees over the drive drop leaves and keep the paving shaded and damp. Trimming them back lets the surface dry out.
Pull weeds while they’re small
Weeds in the joints are easiest to remove when they first appear. See weeds in block paving.
Top up the joint sand
On block paving, keeping the joints full of sand helps the blocks stay locked together. See why block paving needs re-sanding.
Book a clean when it needs one
Even with good habits, driveways pick up dirt, algae and moss over time. We pressure wash block paving, concrete, tarmac and resin. See driveway cleaning.
